SYDNEY CRICKET GROUND XI COMES TO SEDDON PARK
Seddon Cricket Club hosted the touring Sydney Cricket Ground XI under lights at Seddon Park on Saturday night.
This was the second match of a 10 day tour for the SCG XI.
The SCG XI is the cricket playing stream offered to members of the SCG, Sporting Club of Sydney and Allianz Stadium. Opportunities are offered to established members, invited members and waitlisted applicants to participate in planned cricket matches and events including tours, both domestic and international.
Established in 2007, the SCG XI is based on the models of the Marylebone (Lord’s) and Melbourne Cricket Clubs where members can play in social, competitive and marquee matches, join domestic and international cricket tours and attend exclusive events.
The match was played in a competitive yet spirited manner, promoting the true essence of sportsmanship. Beyond the on-field contest, the occasion provided a platform to forge new friendships, reconnect with old ones, and celebrate our shared love for the game. Cricket has an incredible ability to unite people, and this fixture reinforced its power to create lasting relationships and future opportunities for both clubs.
SCG XI Operations Manager Linda Mooney and captain Bruce Hocking expressed their appreciation to the club and presented a special gift, a cricket stump featuring a unique artwork symbolising the Sydney Cricket Ground’s partnership with the Middle Stump Initiative and renowned Gadigal artist Konstantina (Kate Constantine). This initiative pays tribute to Australia’s rich history, celebrating the SCG’s sporting significance while honouring its Gadigal heritage. We are truly grateful to receive this special gift.
In return, Seddon Cricket Club through Head Groundsman Karl ‘KJ’ Johnson, gifted SCG with a piece of the pitch from the recent BLACKCAPS vs England Test Match. A superb gesture.
This fixture was more than just a match—it was a celebration of cricket, community, and friendships that transcend borders with SCG Xl being fantastic tourists. We look forward to continuing this relationship and creating even more memorable moments in the future. We also wish the SCG XI and touring group an enjoyable tour across New Zealand.
A special thank you to our match officials, Greg Peters and Bhavin Parshottam
For the record, Seddon Cricket Club claimed the spoils
